We have protected insurers’ interests in the following kinds of mass tort bankruptcy cases and coverage cases:

Abestos, silica, and talc

Our lawyers have represented insurers in seminal asbestos bankruptcy cases such as Combustion Engineering, Thorpe Insulation, Federal-Mogul, and W.R. Grace. Our lawyers have also been active in talc bankruptcy cases such as Imerys Talc America and LTL Management. We also have significant experience representing insurers in coverage litigation relating to asbestos.

Sex abuse

Our lawyers have represented insurers in diocesan bankruptcies in Minnesota, New York, California, and Maryland, in the bankruptcies of secular non-profit entities such as Boy Scouts of America and Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, and in the bankruptcy of a motel alleged to be liable for sex trafficking. We have also handled non-bankruptcy sex abuse matters throughout the country involving schools, dioceses, and religious orders.

Defective Products

Our lawyers have experience representing insurers in connection with the bankruptcies of manufacturers of allegedly defective products including plastic plumbing, defective home heating systems, and combat ear plugs. In several of these cases, we also represented insurers in associated coverage litigation.

Environmental

Our lawyers regularly have represented insurers in both major coverage litigation involving environmental exposures and in bankruptcy cases in which the debtor is alleged to be liable for harming the environment.

Opioids and firearms

Our lawyers have represented insurers in connection with opioid-related bankruptcies including Purdue Pharma and Rite Aid. Our lawyers represented an insurer in the bankruptcy of a firearms manufacturer sued for, among other things, liability for the Sandy Hook shootings.
