Tacie Yoon represents insurers in bankruptcy litigation and coverage disputes typically involving underlying mass tort claims arising from asbestos, talc, and sexual abuse claims.
For example, Tacie has represented insurers in the bankruptcy cases of Imerys Talc America, Cyprus Mines, Boy Scouts of America, Diocese of New Ulm, Duro Dyne, Garlock, Geo. V. Hamilton, Budd, Plant Insulation, W.R. Grace, Flintkote, Thorpe Insulation, Leslie Controls, Chemtura, and Canal Corporation. She has litigated a broad range of bankruptcy matters, including plan confirmation objections, automatic stay issues, issues concerning the sale and disposition of significant assets, claim objections, motions to appoint trustees, adequacy of disclosure statements, and approvals of settlements. She also has experience in counseling insurance clients concerning the implications of a potential bankruptcy filing by an insured.
Tacie also counsels and represents insurance carriers in complex coverage disputes, including those arising from underlying claims involving exposure to asbestos, environmental liability under CERCLA or similar state statutes, and sexual molestation in academic or religious settings. Tacie has experience handling policy interpretation and insurance coverage issues such as trigger of coverage, number of occurrences, choice of law, duty to defend, allocation of liability among insurers, contribution among insurers, enforceability of anti-assignment provisions, and successor liability.
Tacie has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a leading insurance lawyer. Tacie is also involved in national and local bar associations. She has held leadership positions as an officer on the Board of Governors of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) and on the Board of Directors for the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington D.C. Area (APABA-DC). She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the NAPABA Law Foundation.
